San Diego, CA -- April 6, 2000 -- iMarkup Solutions Inc., (www.imarkup.com), a leading provider of web-based productivity tools, today announced an agreement with ICQ Inc. which enables ICQ users to share markups created with iMarkup with ICQ "buddies." Under the terms of the agreement, iMarkup will use the ICQ API as part of its applications, enabling iMarkup users to use ICQ or the built-in email facility to share their markups with anyone in the world. These markups can be viewed with the free iMarkup plug-in.
iMarkup provides users with the ability to annotate live Web pages and retrieve them using its powerful 'Organizer' feature. The markups can then be emailed to friends and associates and can subsequently be viewed or modified using a free iMarkup plug-in. ICQ provides instant communications and a chat technology for a web-based community of registered users worldwide. ICQ is unique among portals as it supports this strong sense of community; its users are informed when family, friends and business colleagues are online, enabling them to exchange messages in real-time to help users build their own communities. ICQ also gives its users the ability to exchange URLs, files and play games.
"Our user community has been asking us for a way to share their markups in real-time. With ICQ we are able to leverage an installed base of more than 50 million users and provide this complementary service for iMarkup users," stated John O'Brien, president and CEO of iMarkup Solutions. "Prior to iMarkup, we would use ICQ to send each other web page links, followed by messages as to where to look on the pages. Now I can instantly send markups to my ICQ contacts, right from the browser," observed Steve Mast, an iMarkup beta test user. "This has made my Web surfing far more interactive and fun," he concluded.
The iMarkup product was announced on February 22, 2000 and has received the highest of ratings by a number of editors. ZDNet chose iMarkup as "Editors' Pick", "Cream of the Crop" for March, and awarded the product 5 out of 5 Stars. iMarkup was selected as Editor's Pick by WebAttack.com and rated also 5 out of 5 Stars. FileDudes, RocketDownload.com, Shareware Junkies.com, Chat's Choice and The File Transit, all conveyed their highest ratings to iMarkup.
"It is rare that a product receives so many top awards in such a short time," observed John O'Brien. "As a customer-driven organization, it is important for us to hear from our users. Our feedback continues to be 100% positive and we appreciate this on-going communication from our users, " he concluded.
