iMARKUP DOCUMENT REVIEW SERVER NOW AVAILABLE

Product Offers Capabilities that Facilitate the Document Review and Approval Process

San Francisco, CA – March 6, 2002 – iMarkup Solutions Inc., (www.imarkup.com), a leading provider of Web-based collaboration tools, announced the general availability of the iMarkup Document Review Server. Developed to address the needs of enterprise users collaborating on documents, the iMarkup Document Review Server provides a powerful and easy way to distribute, collaborate on, annotate and review documents throughout all stages of the document review process. During workflow, versioning and review cycles, all shared documents are stored securely on the Document Review Server and accessible to all appropriate users. Markups, notes and annotations made by the reviewers can be displayed either by one reviewer at a time, a subset of reviewers or by all simultaneously.

Unlike other tools available to workgroups and virtual teams, the Document Review Server can be self-administered, allowing users to create workgroups, invite users into their workgroups and set permissions. Users can easily and securely publish and distribute documents to members of their workgroups for feedback and review. Documents are automatically rendered in HTML or PDF format for easy distribution, without requiring reviewers to install the original applications.

Original documents are stored on the iMarkup Document Review Server, allowing them to be “checked out” while also preventing others from editing these documents simultaneously. Notification facilities within the Document Review Server then allow authors to automatically notify all reviewers when the documents are ready. Authors have the ability to track reviewers’ progress as they work on their documents. Security permissions identify which documents are accessible to which users, controlling the usage of those documents.

“Many companies are beginning to define a collaboration strategy that includes a focus on both individual and group productivity. Tools that enable users to effectively collaborate in workgroups, whether real or virtual, are necessary contributors to that strategy. We also believe that teamware or virtual workspace tools will enhance that collaboration over the next several years. Products that provide the workflow mechanisms necessary to improve productivity and make the process more efficient will be mandatory,” stated Matthew Cain, Vice President, Web and Collaboration Strategies, META Group.

“We believe that businesses today are focusing on making their workflow processes as efficient as possible. As a result they want to easily and quickly update and publish their documents,” stated John O’Brien, president and CEO of iMarkup Solutions. With iMarkup Document Review Server all changes and requests from reviewers can be routed directly back to authors so the documents can be easily updated. In addition, all versions of the source documents, along with reviewers’ annotations, are stored on the Document Review Server and easily retrieved to compare previous versions. “We believe that overlaying and storing annotations separately from original documents is a more effective way to work– and this also eliminates contaminating documents in any phase of the document review and approval cycle,” O’Brien concluded.

THE CORE TECHNOLOGY

Like the company’s flagship product, iMarkup Content Review Server, members of workgroups and virtual workgroups can apply annotations including voice annotations, free-form drawings and sticky notes to online documents, including PDF format, without having to purchase Adobe Acrobat to run on every workstation. Because all annotations are stored separately from the original documents data is never corrupted. The products also offer users the ability to run and modify reports based on Crystal Decision technology. These reports include information from the configuration database about workgroups, users and user permissions. Among other items, management can learn about system usage (e.g. when users log in/out, what markups they are adding, which documents have been annotated, who has reviewed documents and the status of those documents, types and numbers of annotations on documents, etc.)

The iMarkup Document Review Server is available on Windows NT/2000/XP running IIS. The product will be released for general availability on March 11, 2002.
