NORWEGIAN NATIONAL INSURANCE SERVICE PURCHASES 7,000 LICENSES OF iMARKUP SOFTWARE

Company to Use Product Across 500 Locations and its Corporate Intranet
 

Los Angeles, CA – April 24, 2002 – At Internet World Spring 2002, iMarkup Solutions Inc., (www.imarkup.com), a leading provider of web-based collaboration tools, today announced that the Norwegian National Insurance Service (NIS), the major provider of insurance for residents and citizens of Norway, has acquired 7,000 licenses of its iMarkup client software. In implementing its new corporate intranet, spanning 500 locations across all Norwegian municipalities, NIS is deploying iMarkup technology to 7,000 users involved with the dynamic content of their intranet. The iMarkup software will enable these users to easily make personal notes on the electronic content that NIS relies on.

Norway, with one of the highest standards of living in the world, is part of the European Union social security regulatory framework as a result of the EEA Treaty. Other EEA countries include Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Holland, Portugal, Spain, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Sweden, Germany and Austria. The National Insurance Service provides social protection adapted to the needs of the more than 4,500,000 people in Norway. This ranges from disability insurance to welfare payments and sick leave.

In 2001, NIS upgraded its workstations, servers, software and communications systems. A new Microsoft-based platform with NT servers, selected to provide an interactive system that would make case processing for hundreds of thousands of people easier and more rapid, was then implemented. That led to a decision to take 1500 pages of content having to do with the company’s legal framework, regulations, handbooks and news needing to be electronically distributed, updated and maintained. After evaluating technology alternatives, NIS selected iMarkup.

“NIS knew how things worked on paper -- and wanted to see, on their Web pages, which remarks were made, by who and when,” commented John O’Brien, President of iMarkup Solutions. The company wanted a solution that was easy to use and deploy and that could accommodate both computer literate users and those new to working electronically. “Their basic need was to be able to put individual written annotations on Web pages, handle vast amounts of information more effectively and be able to collaborate on the Net further down the road. NIS selected iMarkup since it is the only product that allows annotations to be associated with Web pages. It is stable, intuitive and easy to use,” he remarked.

NIS will be making iMarkup available as it launches the company’s new intranet, rolling it out from the central office to all 500 locations. “I think this product will make the transition from a paper to electronic world easier for NIS users. They will be able to make annotations without feeling lost or dissatisfied. As they add more pages and applications, the ability to work with and mark up PDFs will also be very important to NIS,” remarked Jim Brush, iMarkup’s Vice President of Sales.
