SAN DIEGO, Calif. –
Dec 9, 2002
– iMarkup Solutions Inc., (www.imarkup.com),
a leading provider of web-based collaboration tools, today announced that
it has integrated its Document Review Server (DRS) with Adobe Acrobat. The
integration provides a comprehensive solution for companies looking to
leverage the Adobe Acrobat annotation capability in an enterprise/server
environment. iMarkup’s DRS provides document control and review workflow
for all PDF documents, creating a truly collaborative setting that
accommodates uploading, accessing, review and approval of documents from
within a browser.
iMarkup’s Document Review Server is a
collaborative document portal that provides the workflow for reviewing and
approving documents. Leveraging the Acrobat annotation capabilities while
also supporting users in all stages of the approval process, DRS gives
enterprise users an easy and secure way to contribute, collaborate on and
review PDF documents. During the workflow, versioning and review cycle,
corporate users have secure access to shared PDF documents stored on the
Document Review Server. The versioning capability allows users to view
older versions of PDF files as well as to see all other users’ annotations
associated with that version. Approved PDF documents can then be published
to a web site or enterprise portal.
A CUSTOMER PERSPECTIVE
MARS ADVERTISING is a
full service agency recognized for its expertise in building brands
through retail channels of distribution, creating manufacturer-retailer
coop advertising, and offering traffic-driving brand advertising in return
for specified store-level performance. The agency offers innovative
co-marketing programs consisting of integrated broadcast, print, direct
response, in-store and Internet tactics that assist its clients in
achieving their business objectives and enhancing brand equity.
Bill Davidson is Vice President, Information
Systems for MARS ADVERTISING. The agency employs in-house systems that
manage workflow, automate reporting and enhance communication with
clients. With an ongoing volume of ‘work in progress’ that needs to be
continually reviewed, critiqued and approved, collaboration about
documents is critical -- and PDF documents were the primary document
format being reviewed at MARS, both internally and with clients. With a
team of 300 strategic thinkers, including more than 40 creative personnel
who create, modify and change documents daily, online collaboration was a
requirement. Emailing attachments raised version control issues and lacked
the interactive, real time relationship MARS wanted to have with its
clients. As a result of online research, Davidson selected iMarkup’s
Document Review Server to annotate documents collaboratively, securely and
in real time, and to interoperate with MARS’ existing systems.
What Davidson wanted, in addition however, was
the ability to review PDF documents on both Macintoshes and PCs, taking
advantage of the annotation capabilities of Acrobat and the
enterprise/server capabilities of the Document Review Server. Because MARS
operates in a Microsoft-based and Apple Macintosh-based environment,
iMarkup’s infrastructure, which consists of SQL Server, Active Directory
and Internet Explorer, created an excellent technical fit. In the process
of developing an industry-leading online portal, Davidson also wanted to
have version history and workflow reports along with an out-of-the box
implementation.
“While I liked the iMarkup solution initially,
its Adobe Initiative makes our purchase decision an even better one. Now
both our Mac and PC users can post documents and initiate their review.
With 100% of our documents in PDF format, the combined technology will
allow us to streamline and centralize our communication – both internally
and with our clients,” Davidson commented. “Initially we wanted to use
Acrobat as our markup tool along with a WebDAV server – a third party
product seemed out of the question. Then iMarkup came along and provided
the workflow and document management we needed – along with the online
collaboration that nobody else can offer,” he concluded.
AVAILABILITY
The Adobe-compatible
version of the Document Review Server, Version 2.0 is available as of
December 10, 2002.
Using the Adobe Acrobat annotation functions,
every comment is associated with the appropriate PDF version and contains
reviewers’ names and the time the annotations were placed. All annotations
are then stored separately from the original PDF document, allowing each
user’s annotations to be color coded to uniquely identify the individual
user. Once a review is initiated, team members then access the document
requiring review from their iMarkup Tasklist or from their automated email
notification. As users complete their reviews, action items are removed
from their task lists and the document owner is automatically notified.
“In offering this comprehensive solution, iMarkup
has addressed the document review and approval process, along with
collaboration and document management,” commented John O’Brien, President
of iMarkup Solutions. “With the integration of our Document Review Server
and Adobe Acrobat, enterprise users throughout Global 2000 businesses can
achieve greater efficiency and ROI,” O’Brien concluded.
